Community Enhancements
The City of Omaha is in the process of establishing a protocol for the coordination of community enhancement projects in conjunction with CSO Solutions. Community enhancement information will be provided at the initial public meeting held approximately 12-18 months prior to the start of the project. These community enhancements include:
- Streetscape enhancements (sidewalks, street lights, pedestrian lights, trees and landscaping)
- CSO Control Facility enhancements (playgrounds, trails, sports courts/ fields)
- Green spaces or parks
- Replacement of aging infrastructure
- Other amenities
It is not anticipated that community enhancements will be funded through the CSO Program, except as necessary for replacement of existing facilities or if they are considered projects with no significant additional cost. Possible projects with no significant additional costs include:
- New curbs and asphalt overlays
- Wider planting strips between street and sidewalk
- Bioretention swales and other Green Solutions for stormwater management
- Medians in some circumstances
- Sidewalks where none previously existed
- Metropolitan Utilities District (MUD) infrastructure replacement
- Bicycle lanes
- Trail/pedestrian pathways
- Striping for pedestrian crossings
Neighborhood/community groups must submit a request to the City in order to include community enhancements requiring outside funding in a sewer separation project. The request form is available below and at project public meetings. Submitted requests will be reviewed by City department representatives. A list of potential funding sources is available upon request.
